Description

CILNIDIPINE+METOPROLOL contains a combination of anti-hypertensive medication, comprising of Metoprolol (a beta-blocker) and Cilnidipine (a calcium channel blocker) used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). CILNIDIPINE+METOPROLOL is used when a single medication is not effective in treating blood pressure. By lowering blood pressure, CILNIDIPINE+METOPROLOL also protects the heart from a future heart attack. Hypertension (high blood pressure) is a long-term force of the blood against the arteries that may lead to various heart diseases. High blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries.

Indication

Cilnidipine is indicated for the management of hypertension for end-organ protection.5 It is reported to be useful in elderly patients and in those with diabetes and albuminuria. Cilnidipine has been increasingly used in patients with chronic kidney disease Hypertension is the term used to describe the presence of high blood pressure. The blood pressure is generated by the force of the blood pumped from the heart against the blood vessels. Thus hypertension is caused when there is too much pressure on the blood vessels and this effect can damage the blood vessel

Mechanism of action

CILNIDIPINE+METOPROLOL contains Metoprolol and Cilnidipine. Metoprolol plays a vital role in relaxing our blood vessels by blocking the action of certain natural substances in your body. It helps slow down the heart rate, making it easier to pump more blood around your body and lower blood pressure. Cilnidipine is a calcium channel blocker that blocks the heart's blood vessel's calcium channel's activities. As a result, the blood vessels widen, and the heart's supply increases, lowering the elevated blood pressure and the heart's workload. Collectively, both help reduce blood pressure and reduce the chance of having any heart attack or stroke in the future.

Precautions

Cilnidipine should be used with caution in patients with hypotension (low blood pressure), heart failure and poor cardiac reserve. Cilnidipine should be discontinued in patients who feel chest pain following the administration of the drug. Sudden withdrawal of the drug to be avoided as this may exacerbate angina.

Side Effects

Like other medications, CILNIDIPINE+METOPROLOL may cause some side effects. However, these side effects may be minor and temporary. Some of the common side effects include feeling dizzy or exhausted, peripheral oedema (swelling of legs/hands), cold hands or feet, difficulty sleeping, Palpitations, nausea and nightmares. These side effects are usually mild and short-lived. However, if the side effects are persistent, reach out to your doctor.

Storage

Store the medicine in a tightly closed container at room temperature. Protect from excess heat and light. Keep out of reach of children.
